Amy DeKerlegand, MD, FACS

Dr. DeKerlegand was born and raised in Lafayette, LA. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She completed her medical school training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She also completed her general surgery residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, where she received her robotic surgery training certificate. After residency, Dr. DeKerlegand continued her training with a minimally invasive surgery fellowship in Houston with UTHealth Houston, where she learned complex laparoscopic techniques.

Dr. DeKerlegand is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and Texas Medical Association. Dr. DeKerlegand’s interests are in minimally invasive abdominal procedures including anti-reflux procedures, hiatal hernia repairs, gallbladder surgery, and ventral, umbilical, and inguinal hernia repairs. Dr. DeKerlegand performs open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeries and tailors her care and surgical approach to each patient.

In her free time, Dr. DeKerlegand enjoys traveling, live music, watching a good TV show, sewing, and spending time with her family and her cats.
