Austin Surgeons is proud to welcome board-certified general surgeon Dr. Amy DeKerlegand, who brings expertise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery.
A Passion for Patient Care
Dr. DeKerlegand finds the most rewarding part of her work in the immediate impact she can have on her patients’ lives. From relieving pain caused by gallbladder issues to performing anti-reflux procedures that improve sleep and comfort, her goal is always to enhance quality of life.
“The ability to use my hands and my training to improve a patient’s health is always rewarding,” says Dr. DeKerlegand.
She emphasizes that surgery is a team effort: her staff, nurses, fellow physicians, and, of course, patients and their families all play a vital role in achieving the best outcomes.
Life Outside the OR
When she’s not performing surgery, Dr. DeKerlegand enjoys getting creative with arts and crafts, from embroidery and weaving to sewing. She loves the process of making something with her hands and enjoying the finished product.
New to Austin, she’s excited to embrace all it has to offer, including hiking trails, exploring parks, and trying stand-up paddleboarding.
Bringing Surgical Expertise to Central Texas
Originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. DeKerlegand completed her medical school and general surgery training at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, followed by a minimally invasive surgery fellowship in Houston.
She specializes in minimally invasive abdominal procedures, including anti-reflux surgery, hernia repairs, and gallbladder surgery, using open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery approaches tailored to each patient.
She is thrilled to join a practice with a strong reputation for collaboration, compassion, and clinical excellence.
“Austin Surgeons has an outstanding reputation in the community, and I’m excited to work with a team that truly values teamwork and patient care,” she shares.
